WebMay 16, 2011 · Now, if you want to get all fancy I'd recommend the Collar of Umbral Metamorphosis from the Tome of Magic (pg 156). It will grant you temporarily the Dark Creature template which gives you both darkvision and hide in plain sight. It costs 10800gp but a stronger version that grants the template permanently is 22000gp.

It makes no sense that bird people and dragon-people don't have darkvision when freaking dwarves have it, probably remove it from dwarves too. You just can't reasonably run a "spooky things in the shadows" game with so many darkvision races. WebSounds like you may have forgotten that complete darkness, with darkvision means perception checks are made at disadvantage. Without darkvision a check isnt made at all. And the light means your party gets to roll without the disadvantage. We tend to forget this little tip. I've had this problem as well.
